-- Carpet Steam Cleaning Tips | Carpet Cleaning Frankston

Whenever a pet has an accident on a carpeted floor, the sooner you’re able to take action and clean the urine, the less time it’ll have to seep into the carpet and leave a difficult stain with a foul odor. However, many times there are old dry stains and spots that are a bit more challenging to tackle. Depending on which you have, there are a few things that you can do:

New carpet stains: Wet urine should be soaked up first, using a layer of paper towels, news papers or the absorbent side of a pee-pad. Apply a good amount of pressure to help absorb deeper, repeating the process until its barely damp. Lastly, rinse the spot with cool water and repeat the blot-drying process.

Set-in stains: When pet urine has had a few hours to permeate and set into your carpet, you’ll have to take a different approach. Rent a carpet cleaner, use a carpet stain remover if the stain proves too stubborn and pet odor-neutralizer as a good topper.

Older Stains: Old dried-out urine stains are difficult to spot. The odor will give them away; you may catch a whiff in a room or smell a suspicious-looking stain. Make sure to mark all the problematic areas before following the steps for “set-in stains.”

Store-bought Stain Removers

Bottles of pet urine stain remover can be found in many stores. Make sure to read the labels to avoid any toxic elements, unsafe for your pets. Start by soaking up as much of the left- over urine on the stain as you can. Cover the stain completely with the remover, carefully
following the product’s instructions. Rinse and blot-dry. Refrain from the overuse of the cleaner to avoid sticky residue.

Homemade Solutions

These are a few known ways to make your own carpet cleaning solutions. Make sure to try it on a small patch first and to err on the side of gentle blotting;

Baking Soda and Vinegar: Spray the stain with white vinegar, then coat it with baking soda. Covered it with a towel, and after a day or 2, vacuum away the dried chunks of baking soda. Rinse and blot dry.
Dishwasher Detergent: In a cup of warm water, mix 1/4 teaspoon of dishwashing detergent. Spray solution all over the stein, then towel-dry for a couple of days. Repeat process until you’re satisfied with the results.
